There are such incredible songs being released on almost a daily basis by South African musos, and it is always a pleasure to add them to the Scatterlings of Africa New Music playlist on Spotify.
This week we have added almost 30 brilliant songs ranging from Rock to Folk, Pop to House, Hip-hop to Reggae, and they are so worth taking a listen to.
Some of the highlights this week include:
Bye Beneco – Jungle Drums
Eclectic dream-pop ensemble Bye Beneco are back with a fresh new single titled Jungle Drums.
Bye Beneco have just finished recording their new studio EP, Ghetto Disko, which will be released on 14 July 2017.
MGT & Ashton Nyte – The Reaping
Although the song is almost a year old, it is worth being on our New Music playlist, as it is just so damn good. MGT is actually British guitarist Mark Thwaite, who played in bands such as The Mission, and Spear of Destiny. But on this song the vocals are provided by South African rock god, solo performer and frontman of The Awakening, Ashton Nyte. It is a masterpiece.
Karly V – Sometimes
Karly V has been performing live on the South African circuit for over 7 years and has finally decided to release some original music. Her breathtaking debut single Sometimes has been released, and indicates a promising start in a burgeoning career for the artist at large.
Connell Cruise – Wreckage
It’s been a year and a half since Connell Cruise released his EP ‘Into The Wild’, however, after months writing and recording in both the United States and South Africa, Connell cruised back with new album Barley Breathing, and new song “Wreckage”
Die Heuwels Fantasties – Gebruik My
Die Heuwels Fantasties are back with a brand new album OKAY! All four of their previous releases have received gold status within a short period of time, and by the sounds of their latest single “Gebruik My”, this one should by just as successful.
Kimosabe – Nights
Allow us to introduce you to Johannesburg R&B sensation Kimosabe. His song “Nights” is the title track on his EP, and is really something special. He produced, wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered every single song himself, not to mention that every single instrument was played by him as well.
Albert Meintjies – Dune 45
Singer Songwriter from Cape Town, Albert Meintjies’ song Dune 45 is a fine example of modern folk coming out of The Mothercity.
Wandile Mbambeni – Lovers Like You
This is an absolute must listen. If you haven’t heard of Wandile Mbambeni, allow me to introduce you to him. He is a singer/songwriter originally from the Eastern Cape, currently based in Cape Town. Born the youngest of three brothers in the rural former Transkei. He was formerly known as the Border Bulldogs scrumhalf and now he is typically recognized for his smooth afro-soul folk sound when gracing the stage alone. His latest single ‘Lovers Like You’ is a fairly simple song, but it succeeds in rooting the floaty ballad firmly in your head. An ear worm deluxe!
There are so many more brilliant songs, but why not take a listen for yourself? All the songs, along with 130 other new sounds of home are right here on the #Spotify playlist Scatterlings of Africa – New Music
